Cry Baby Broadway is Back!

“Cry Baby” is a Broadway musical version of the 1990 movie under the same name by John Waters. It explores the dissident side of John’s mind. Although the plot is the typical bad guy versus good girl, the charisma exuded by each character and the rebel of the teens of 1950s is worth a watch.

The play “Cry Baby” revolves around the love of two people from opposite backgrounds. Allison is unable to resist the ‘bad guy’ charm of Walker and is determined to find out how bad he is. Plenty of amusement erupts in the story when their town tries its level best to keep the two lovers on their respective tracks. What you can observe in this play is teenage rebellious love, petulant parents, and some rock’n’roll music.

When the striking dame of comedy, Harriet Harris as Allison’s grandmother Mrs. Vernon Williams; the multi-talented James Synder as Wade Cry Baby Walker; and the irresistible Elizabeth Stanley as Allison Vernon Williams come together on the stage, you can expect no less than a completely entertaining and amusing show.

Directed by Mark Brokaw, “Cry Baby” is scheduled to run on Broadway in March, 2008. It had premiered in November, 2007 and ran through December. The sets are designed to create the environment of 1950 Baltimore. You can feel the rock’n’roll culture of this time, the burning rebellion in the hearts of teenagers, and the strong reluctance of the older generation during those times.

The book has been written by Thomas Meeham, who is regarded as one of the most trusted “weapons” of Broadway! He has shown his splendid creativity by writing for “Annie”, “Hairspray”, “The Producers”, and “Young Frankenstein.” All these shows have been super-hits.

David Javerbaum, who has won an Emmy Award and Adam Schlesinger, who has won a Grammy, have together given fabulous lyrics and music in this play. Rob Ashford has given wonderful choreography. He’s famous for his work in “The Wedding Singer”, “Curtains”, and “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”

The entire creative team has done a splendid job of transforming a hit cult movie into an unforgettable stage performance. Most of the star cast in this play have won some or the other award before for their performances. Even the makers of the show have quite a few awards to their credit. They have given many hit shows in the past on Broadway. Would you like to miss such a great show? No way!

So, what are you waiting for? Dial a number and book your tickets for the March performance. You can also book online.
